LL Cool J, although mostly known for his hip hop and acting career is quietly becoming famous for his insanely shredded muscled up physique. Now I have been a fan of LL’s for quite sometime, mostly due to his intense drive and unrelenting work ethic.

One of the first stories I read about Ll’s workouts he would  hop off his tour bus in the middle the desert for miles and do his daily running on asphalt so hot it felt like running on fire, I even read about him hoping over fences of high-school football fields to do wind sprints followed by pullups goalposts. This mentality is what has separated LL and i honestly believe this use-what-you-have approach is why he has achieved the great success so far.

To quote LL’s trainer Honig ‘The harder we work in a shorter amount of time, the more calories we burn.” A typical workout for LL might consist of a full body free weight exercise immediatly followed by 10 rounds of boxing mits, or shadow boxing. This is whats called supersetting and it is highly effective in ramping up your metabolism to burn massive amounts of fat.

One point I really like about LL’s workouts are his repetitive use of wind sprints, his trainer sometimes puts him through 3 weeks of 440s, 880s, 100-yard dashes, and hill climbs wearing a weighted vest. This although effective alone, when coupled with bodyweight exercises like pushups pullups and squats can make it an even better choice for leaning up.

So LL definetly has adopted the just get it done mentallity and it makes you think…”Whats your excuse for not working out?”

At the tender young age of 40, LL has every right to slow down, but with his work ethic he is shifting into overdrive and has a new book out with his trainer Honig as the coauthor. Its called LL Cool J’s Platinum workout and can be purchased online or at your local bookstore, the book blends free-weight bodybuilding exercises, plyometrics, fighters’ moves, calisthenics, and endurance training, all all in one complete package.

I’ll leave you guys with this quote from LL…

“Working out is a huge investment in yourself, and it builds equity in your body,” says LL. “It helps in all your decisions. It helps you negotiate. It clears your mind. It gives you strength to overcome obstacles. It’s a deep thing, you know?”
